AS/NZS 1906.4:2010 in conjunction with EN 471 - High visibility materials for safety garments
This standard specifies minimum standards for materials and performance – colour, type and required area.
AS/NZS 4602:1:2011 in conjunction with EN 471 - Day and night visibility standards
This standard specifies minimum levels of fluorescent materials present in day only garments, minimum levels of fluorescent materials and retro reflective tape for night visibility garments, and design and colours for day and night garments
These standards specify requirements for clothing intended to provide visibility of the user in hazardous situations under any light conditions by day and under illumination by vehicle headlights in the dark (24 hours‚ visibility). Effective visibility is to be provided by a fluorescent fabric and reflective stripes.
Day only use: A Day only compliant garment must have a minimum 0.4m² of fluorescent orange or yellow material that completely encircles the upper torso.
Day/Night use: A Day/Night compliant garment must have 0.4m² of fluorescent orange or yellow material that completely encircles the upper torso (must be visible - fabric under retro reflective tape is not included). A Day/Night garment must also have additional reflective material of which must be 50mm wide.
Temporary Traffic Management Control (TTMC) use: A TTMC garment must have at least 0.6m² of fluorescent orange fabric visible with an additional tail (must be 150mm longer than the front) on the rear of the garment. A TTMC garment must also have 0.2m² of reflective material (50mm wide), which includes an additional band of reflective material on the tail. The reflective elements shall form a recognized belt and braces pattern, with braces joining at the belt.
NZFOA Forestry Standard - Industry Approved Guidelines for clothing for forestry use (Unofficial NZ Standard)
This guideline specifies the minimum acceptable design standards for garments intended for use within New Zealand commercial forest environments. The garment must be made from a Fluoro Yellow or Fluoro Orange material that is compliant to AS/NZS 1906.4.
FID (Forest Industries Day time): Requires a minimum area of 0.06m² of fluoro material on both the front and back upper torso. Each solid block of fluoro grid must not be less than 15cm² with no dimensions less than 1cm of the solid block.
FIND (Forest Industries Day and Night): In addition to the above, a minimum of 150cm² of retro-reflective material is required on both the front and back upper torso.
UltraFlect®
Argyle use UltraFlect® retro-reflective tape on all of our overalls, workwear and apparel. This tape exceeds all of the relevant requirements for European and Australian/New Zealand joint standards for Day/Night use.
We have had the tape tested to comply with these standards which requires the tape to be washed 30 times at 90o or dry cleaned 10 times. We also hold test certificates for 75 washes at 75oC, and 100 washes at 60oC. We will shortly be conducting more tests, including 50 washes at 90o. We firmly believe that this is the only tape on the market to have been Industrial Wash-tested to this extreme, and stand by the quality and durability of the product.
